Zocalo – Mega Square of Mexico City
Mexico City has various tourism sites that able to keep you busy everyday! Museums, art galleries, traditional shopping centers, historic city center, a lovely garden. there is no limit to the things you can do in Mexico City.
In the state of Mexico, Mexico City there is a Plaza or we usually called as square, called the Zocalo. It is the main square as well as the heart of the historic center that was formerly known as the “main square” and now has been replaced to its official name: Plaza de la Constitucion.
Zocalo is located downtown in Mexico City and you must visit when you travel to Mexico. Mexico city’s Zocalo Square has an area of 57,600 meter2 (240m x 240m). The square is one of the largest square in the world, along with the Red Square in Moscow and in the Tiannamen square in Beijing.
Zocalo Square has become a gathering place for Mexicans since Aztec era, such as the Mexican ceremony, inauguration of Leaders, news announcements from royal, military parades, ceremonies of independence and modern religious events such as festival of holy week and Corpus Christi. Bordering the Plaza Zocalo cathedral in the northern part, National palace in eastern part, federal district building in the southern and the Old Portal de Mercaderes in the west.
Zocalo has many special attractions, in the Zocalo this we can see various kinds of activities. It is said that if you want actually know the country you visit then you must go to the downtown. Similarly, in the Zocalo, You will find a variety of activities and the heartbeat of Mexico’s capital.
There are lot of people visit Zocalo Square, Not only tourists but also local mexican. In every corner of the Zocalo we can meet traditional dancers with typical movement.
