St.Mark Basilica – Most Beautiful Building of Venice
Beside gondola, Venice is very popular for its St.Mark Basilica (called Basilica San Marco by local residents). St Mark’s Basilica is the most beautiful church in Venice. The church is considered as a symbol of wealth and power of Venice since the 11th century, the building is also known as the Chiesa d’Oro (Golden Church).
St.Mark Basilica is a cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Venice, northern Italy. The basilica was first built in 828 AD as the final resting place of St. Mark (one of the four Gospel writers), this church burnt in revolt in 976 and rebuilt in 978 and then rebuild into a basilica in 1063. During that time the basic structure of the building has been heavily modified, decorated from time to time.
The St.Mark Basilica has five domes, four on each side of the church, and one dome above the intersection of the cross line. Each inner side of the dome has mozaic paintings of people from the Bible where Jesus at the top of the dome, which represents a concept of divinity, which is in the highest place.
