St.Anne Church (Jerusalem) – A Religious Visit
Church of Santa Anne well-known as a place where the Virgin Mary was born. Entering Church of Santa Anne will make every visitors amazed for its huge size, uniqueness and it’s beauty.
The uniqueness of this church located on the voice system. as quietly or as loudly any sound delivered, every person will receive the same sound intensity no matter where they are, specifically when the speaker stand on one point that has white round line, that is where the preacher usually stand to preach. Church of St Ana is also known as a peaceful quiet place. We can sing, as well as pray personally, attending Mass or consult with the priests who guard the place. In the Basement they keep the holy Sacraments.
When Turkish conquer Jerusalem the church St.Ana neglected. At the time the Crusaders came to Jerusalem the church was already destroyed, then they rebuilt a place where Church of St.Anne Stands. Near the church they also built a convent.
Since 1192, the church was used as a school for Islam and should not be entered by Christians. And then on the fifteenth century, the monks received permission from the Islamic rulers to hold a mass in St.Anne Church on 8 September (the birth of the Virgin Mary) and on 8 December (Feast of Mary Immaculate).
In 1856 the ancient building is handed over to the French, then in 1878 the maintenance was entrusted to the missionaries “white fathers”. after 6-day war this church suffered a lot of damage, but it was renovated in 1971.
On the front right side of the church, there is a phenomenal building at his time, the Pool of Bethesda (which means House of Mercy). This pool is a place that was believed to cure all kinds of diseases when the water is wavy. This is where Jesus did miracles to heal a lame man.
