Plaza Mayor – Famous Town Square of Madrid (Spanyol)
Spain is a country in Europe that has famous nickname “Sun Drenched” and “Wild Land” because it has a lot of interesting places and amazing vacation spots. Beside of its natural attractions, Tourism in the downtown of Spain will amaze every people: the culture, the beauty of the buildings, and also gardens and cafe’s are some convenient places for every visitor. In Spain there is a Plaza that is very popular among local and foreign tourists called Plaza Mayor.
Plaza is a word of the Spanish language, which means the field located at public areas, such as square. Plaza Mayor is a large square in the city of Madrid. Plaza mayor formed by 4 level buildings forming letter “U”. The first level of the plaza mayor is shopping center and cafe. While 3 levels above are hotel, apartment and residence of citizens.
Plaza Mayor is a favorite place for all tourist both local and international to gather and drink some coffee in the café. The place is very spacious, beautiful and filled by wide variety of people from many nations. this place is commonly used as a gathering place for tourists from all over the world. Lot of people sitting in cafes, souvenir shops and attractions as well as street painters.
In old times this plaza is a traditional market which then converted into square-shaped box on the order of King Philip III. Many events ever held in Plaza Mayor, such as the king’s coronation, bullfights, and execution of citizens who break the law. In the middle of this 1000 meters square stands a statue of King Philip III riding a horse.
