Himeji Castle – Most Famous Ancient Castle in Japan

Himeji Castle is one of Japan’s national historical assets that still stands tough until today. Himeji Castle was built in the early 14th century in 1346 by the son of shogun Akamatsu Norimura called Akamatsu Sadanori.
The structure of Himeji Castle is so sturdy and has an elegant appearance, coupled with the complex and tactical defense makes Himeji castle become the most famous castles in Japan. Himeji Castle is rated as a very valuable world’s cultural heritage, that’s why in 1993
UNESCO listed Himeji Castle as one of World Heritage Sites in the category of cultural heritage.
Himeji Castle has a main tower as high as 150 feet and consists of five floors. At base of the tower called there is a place called Donjon, there are a gate called HaraKiri Maru, which means the Gate of Suicide. In this place, the Japanese warrior who failed to perform their
duties, will do harakiri (suicide), voluntarily or forced.
From a distance Himeji Castle looks so beautiful with its white walls, Himeji Castle is often used as a film location with background of ancient Japanese history. When Sakura flowers blooming season the environment is so beautiful with its extraordinary colors. In Himeji Area, sakura will be at full bloom around the end of March annully.
