Hawa Mahal (India) – Beautiful Palace of the Winds
Hawa Mahal, or Palace of the Winds is the most well known historic buildings in the city of Jaipur, India.
Hawa Mahal is derived from the word Hawa = wind and Mahal = palace, so if combined means “Palace of the Winds”. This building called the Palace of the Wind because it has large number of small windows (up to 953 windows). This place was built in 1799 and has 5 floors, it consists of rows of small windows. Previously, the wind can blow freely when windows opened.
In His period, King Rajput well-known for his obey to traditional culture, He re-established rules that forbid royal women to be seen in public area because it could bring down their dignity. Therefore, the King makes the women stay in the house. King Rajput then build Hawa Mahal with lots of windows so that the women could see life outside from the windows.
Generally known that Hawa Mahal was the first building constructed from red sandstone and it has pink shaped crown like being used by god Krishna. There is a little strange thing with the Hawa Mahal, the entrance located in the back, not the front. Currently, Hawa Mahal has become a famous tourism spot. This place became one of the spectacular scenery in Jaipur and a great place for Indian and international film-making.
