Hang Son Doong (Vietnam) – Breathtaking World’s Largest Cave
Son Doong cave (in Vietnam: Hang Son Doong, meaning Mountain River Cave) is a cave located in the National Park of Phong Nha-Ke Bang, Quang Binh Province, Vietnam.
Hang Son Doong cave was discovered by a local man named Ho Khanh in 1991. The cave is five times larger than Phong Nha cave that were previously regarded as the largest cave in Vietnam. The largest space in Son Doong is more than five kilometers long, 200 meters high and up to 150 meters wide. This cave has unique natural conditions. Inside the cave there are dense forests that always filled with haze and crystal clear pools with greenish water. There also lot of cave pearls inside Soon Doong Cave, Cave pearls is small stones from the precipitation of calcium commonly found in limestone caves.
In Hang Son Doong cave there are two large forest which have trees that grow up to 30 meters high. There also rare plant species as well as a number of new species of animals were recently found. Monkeys, hornbills and flying foxes are common in the forests inside the cave. Forests in the cave called as the “Garden of Edam”, it is formed from the collapse ceiling of the cave that allows the light to pass through and growth various types of mosses and shrubs. In the first sight all visitors will amazed and think this natural phenomenon looks like a hidden paradise in science fiction films.
