Haesindang – Garden of One Hundred Penis
Jeju Love Land in Jeju Island is so famous as an iconic erotic park in South Korea. But, apparently the Gingseng Country have another similar interesting spot, namely Haesindang Park aka Park of penis.
The normal park usually filled with flowers. But something unique happened in Haesindang Park. The Park filled with replica statues of penis.
Haesindang Park or frequently called Penis Park located in Gangwon-do, precisely 20 km from the Centre of Samcheok. The Park is famous for its statues that resemble the shape of penis that are scattered throughout the area of Haesindang Park.
Everywhere You looked at while visiting the garden of Haesindang you will see a variety of penis-shaped carvings and sculpture, the shape of the genitals of men who made there exists in a variety of different shapes and sizes.
The sculptures were created by the Korean artist for the purpose of spiritual joy, and sexuality. At least there are about 100 sculptures of the penis that is in this place. All the statues and carvings in the Haesindang has the same theme, that is penis. Even the park benches has form of Penis.
Even though it looks odd, but statues and carvings of the penis was not created as a whim or humorous project by the architect. There is a legend that became the original purpose of the establishment of the Park. The legend tells the story of a Virgin ever swept away into the sea and drowned. His life could not be saved, even the beloved also failed to help the girl. Since then the fishes that can be catched by fishermen on the coast became very reduced due to the beach became the location of the death of the girl. For the sake of giving “consolation” to the corpse of the Virgin, the villagers take an initiative to make a variety of sculpture and wood carving shaped penis and hold regular religious ceremonies every year. After the sculptures are created and the ceremony is done, slowly the villagers can live in peace and the fishermen become more prosper. That’s why, if visiting Haesindang, you will see a small temple place for religious ceremonies. At the top of the cliff there is a penis sculpture carved to resemble the symbols of the zodiac.
To achieve Haesindang Park you have to take bus number 24 of Samcheok Intercity Bus Terminal. The bus is available from 18:00-20:00 local time. To enter Haesindang Park, you must pay the ticket costing 3000 Won for adult visitors, 2000 Won for teenagers and 1500 Won for children. During the month of March – October, the Park is open from 09:00 to 18:00. Whereas in November – February close early at 17:00.
