Golden Temple (called Harmandir Sahib in the Punjabi language) is the most important holy place for followers of the Sikh religion (Sikhism). This gold-layered Gurdwara located on the Amritsar in Punjab state, India. Gurdwara is the term for a place of prayer for Sikh people.

Many says the Sikh religion is a blend of Hinduism and Islam. Sikhism believes one God who has power over everything. Sikhs do not apply caste like in the Hindu religion. Sikhs also believe in reincarnation. Sikh emphasis on ethics, morality and values, and believe all human beings are equal in God’s eyes. The Golden Temple is a holy place for sikhism just like mekkah for moeslem or vatican for christian.

One thing that makes Golden Temple so special is anyone can enter regardless of the religious background, ethnicity, language and caste of the visitors. There are dozens thousands of pilgrims and visitors who come to the Golden Temple every day. Moreover, in the Golden Temple there are hundreds of volunteers  who work every day. Their duties vary, started from cleaning service, a cook in the kitchen, a dishwasher, vegetable cutter, and others. Golden Temple is a very comfortable and clean home for everyone.

Golden Temple located on a large pond called Amritsar. Architecture of Golden Temple adopting Hindu and Islamic styles. Large, magnificent and beautiful, that’s the impression says by everyone who come to visit this temple. Along the corridor towards the entrance there are many small temple where sikh priests pray, The small temple in the form of the room, also a glass-shaped space.

The most famous part of Golden Temple is Temple Hari Mandir (Temple of God) or also called Darbar Sahib (the Court of the Lord), which is a temple building that has Very beautiful giant gold dome. The Golden Dome supposedly layered by 750kg of gold and forming lotus flower, a symbol of Sikh that have meaning as life with full of holyness.

Another interesting part is the kitchen, the kitchen serves special vegetarian meals for a maximum of 60,000 to 80,000 pilgrims who come to eat every day. All the food distributed free of charge to anyone, all who visited the Golden Temple can come to eat, visitors are also welcome to give money as contribution for this temple (but it is not mandatory).

Morning is a great time to see the Golden Temple and the temple complex more clearly. If you want to enter the Golden Temple, visitors are required to take off their footwear and place it in the space provided. In addition, visitors also have to cover their heads using a bandana that provided in front of the entrance door.
