Exploring Hidden Secrets of Jade Emperor Pagoda (Vietnam)
Jade Emperor Pagoda is the temple in Vietnam built in 1909. Chinese community has been part of Vietnam since long time ago. Religion, culture, and custom from Chinese create what Vietnam today. This temple is Taoist pagoda located in Ho Chi Minh City. For your information, this city is the second largest city in Vietnam with many tourist attractions. This temple is still being used as ceremony and you may see the interesting events in the right time. Now, it is time to look inside this place. Tao is different from Buddha, though it is not declared as definite religion. Inside Jade Emperor Pagoda, you will see many statues that represent hero and divinity beings. Of course, the majority of statues are familiar in Chinese culture. Tourists are able to smell the pungent smoke that’s consistently burned to fill the pagoda with delicate yet strong air. This incense is called Huong in Vietnam language.
Tao is different to Buddha and that is correct. However, Tao temple still gets Buddha accent, though it is not in full construction. You may see some Buddha characters as statue. In altar, you will see status with the height that reaches four meters. The statue is General who destroyed the green dragon. You may see dragon part underfoot. Another statue also represents General that kill white tiger. You will see the way statue stepped on the top of tiger.
On the left side, there is chamber for Jade Emperor. The room is not quite closed, but you can enter it easily. This room is for Thanh Hoang or Chief of Hell. The figure is depicted with his horse inside chamber. You may tell that this chamber is full of hell-theme. Several figures are belonged to Gods who give punishment in Hell. Evil and good deeds have different rewards. Of course, evil will go to hell and good deeds will get good reward from Gods. The rooms are carved with such illustration to show Hell-theme situation. Woodcarving is what make Jade Emperor pagoda famous.
Another interesting point in Jade Emperor pagoda is that it’s full of ceramic figure. There are twelve women as depicted into figure with clothes and their children. The clothes are very colorful and you will see the traditional Chinese accent in their clothes. This temple is not just for worshipping or blessing, but also learning about life. Twelve women resemble human characteristics. Chinese astrology has twelve animals and these figures are part of that system. The room is for Chief of Women or Kim Hoa Thanh Mau. Another figure is Quam Am or Goddess of Mercy.
Jade Emperor Pagoda is more than temple. The surrounding is full of beautiful scenery, including small pond with turtles. You will see unique inscription from them. Before visiting this place, it is good to obtain preliminary knowledge. As you know, the temple has certain rule and guideline so tourists should follow it without any question. Jade Emperor Pagoda combines many aspects of tourism into single place. You will get beautiful surrounding, historical building, old artifact, cultural diversity, and life lesson.
