Have you seen the picture of giant stone statues in the form of a human face, spread over vast land? It name is Maoi, which is the witness of the richness of Polynesian culture 400 years BC. hundreds of Maoi stand in a remote island in the middle of Pacific Ocean called Easter Island.

Easter Island called Rapa Nui by the local tribe of Polynesia, is one of the most isolated island in the world. Geographically Easter Island is an island in Chile near the southeast Pacific Ocean, at the Southeast part of Polynesian Triangle. There are 887 Moai statues scattered throughout the island. The average height of the statue is 4 meters with an average weight about 14 tons. For centuries scientists try to solve the mystery how the giant Moai statues on Easter Island can be transferred from the place where it built to the all area of island. Historians speculate Moai were created to honor ancestors, chiefs and other prominent figures. there is no written evidence about the origin of Moai, also very little oral history on the island and therefore no one can confirm it.

When the Europeans arrived in 1722, they found Easter Island so barren, only a few people there. Easter Island name was given by the Europeans who firstly set foot on the island. The Dutch explorer Jacob Roggeveen is the one who discovered the island on Easter Sunday, April 5 1722, when he was looking for David island.

Tourism has become the main attraction of this island. National Park of Easter Island (Rapa Nui) listed as one of World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1995. You can visit this island using LAN Airlines departing from the city of Santiago in Chile, with a schedule once a week.

The second interesting thing in Easter Island is the marine tourism around. The island surrounded by white sandy beaches, the beach of Anakena is a magnet for surfers. 1 kilometer separated from island there is a point for diving and snorkeling. Obviously, the Moai statues also scattered in the waters.
