Dubrovnik – Elegant Old Town of Croatia
Those who seek Paradise on Earth should come to see Dubrovnik “. that was George Bernard said when he visited the city of Dubrovnik. he was a winner of Nobel Literature in 1925, and 1938 Oscar winner for the screenplay Pygmalion. what he said seems so excessive, but if you come to see yourself you will realize that what he said about Dubrovnik is not just a nonsense.
Strategically located in the waters of the Balkans, Dubrovnik at the end of the 12th century had become the center of trade and maritime in the Mediterranean region. For nearly 500 years the beauty of Dubrovnik invites threat from outsiders, such as Roman, Venetian, and Ottoman who wants to seize the city, that’s why local government built solid walls around in the late 13th 16th century.
Located in the south of Croatia, the city has a nickname “Pearl of the Adriatic”. The old town is located in a stretch of Adriatic ocean which is not far from the state of Montenegro. Dubrovnik fortified by two kilometers of walls , making it like a gem in Sea coast of Adriatic.
Dubrovnik is truly amazing, it is a centuries-old fortress with high walls surrounding the city. UNESCO proclaimed Dubrovnik as a World Heritage Site since 1979. Castles, churches, museums, houses in Dubrovnik is so extraordinarily beautiful in terms of architecture and
structure. There almost no remains of the independence war of Croatia in the 1991-1995 and, although in some places, the bullet’s holes still imprint in several buildings.
Every building in Dubrovnik looks old, stand majestically without troubled by time. Castles stand strong, Lush trees around also seemed enjoy the coastal breeze. For a moment, the beauty of Dubrovnik Old Town will make you forget yourself.
Nowadays the old town Dubrovnik become a modern and bustling tourist place crowded by visitors. There are schools, university and hotels. Most of the local residents use the motorcycle as a means of transport because the parking lot is very limited.
