Casa Batllo (Barcelona) – The House of Bones
Casa Batllo is one of amazing buildings that have amazing design in Barcelona. Casa Batllo was designed by a famous architect named Antoni Gaudi. As we know, Gaudi works can be easily known by excessive use of ornamentation and forms that resemble natural circumstances such as caves, cliffs and elements of the plant.
Casa Batllo is located not far from Casa Mila, one of the most beautiful buildings of Antoni Gaudi. The owner of Casa Batllo is Josep Batllo i Casanovas. around 1900, Batllo bought an old building, then he asked Gaudi to demolish the building and build the new one.
When viewed from the front side, Casa Batllo made of sandstone layered by colorful Trencadis. Trencadis is mosaic art of Cataluna. The most interesting feature of this four-level house is the balcony part.
Gaudi designed the balconies of the building with the shape of skulls with pillars shaped like human bones. Because of the unique shape, Josep Batllo’s house called as the House of Bones
In the interior, Gaudi also has a deep attention to every detail. It is seen from the design of the stained glass windows, wooden doors, colorful tiles, and the carved fireplace.
Roof of Casa Batllo also very unique. The form is wavy and sharp, the shape looks like the scales of a dragon. Many say the aim of Gaudi design the building is to told the story of Saint Jordi stab the dragon’s back with his sword.
Today Casa Batllo used as a museum, we can enter the Casa Batllo to see magnificent architecture of the building, entrance ticket costing 18 euros.
