BRAN CASTLE (Transylvania) – Kingdom of Dracula
Hearing the word ‘vampire’ makes some people frightened. Myths about the fanged creature often presented as a blood-sucker in films. Until now, the mystery of the existence of vampires is confusing, some believe that vampire does not exist, and only a legend.
But if we take a walk to Romania, there is an extraordinary castle of the 14th century that still standing tough. This beautiful Castle named Bran Castle and often associated with vampire icon of Romanian: Vlad the Impaler.
The original Dracula is a bloodsucker creatures as depicted in Bram Stoker novel. Dracula is a prince of Wallachia named Vlad III or Vlad Draculea who lived from 1431 to 1476. Vlad III also has a nickname “Vlad Tepes” which means “Vlad The Impaler”.
Vlad the Impaler known as ruthless ruler. He often executed his enemies in vile ways, namely stab enemies from the bottom up to the top of the body. His enemies were left impaled to die because of loss of blood.
In the old days, Vlad the Impaler was regarded as a hero who managed to protect Romania from the Turkish Ottoman army. But throughout his rule, Vlad Tepes did has a sadistic pastime, it is to kill people and impale his body. In fact, he says, he likes partying and eating while being surrounded by the bodies of the victims that still lodged on the wood. For 6 years he was in power the victims reached 40,000 to 100,000 people.
In the city of Transylvania, a small town near Brasov in Romania, there is a castle named Bran Castle. The castle was once the residence of Vlad Tepes, the castle has been built from the 13th century and had become a place to stay on for many Romanian rulers, including Vlad Tepes.
Bran Castle in Transylvania, Romania is famous as the castle of Dracula. This is the starting point of the story of the vampire. In the castle, there is a bedroom of Dracula and a variety of spooky stories surround.
Bran Castle is a 60 meters building located above the hills and even from distance it can reveals horrify nuance. A touch of Gothic architecture in buildings around the forest is still beautiful, it makes visitors as if life in the 15th century in Eastern Europe. this castle has many rooms and dark hallways inside. Some space in the Bran Castle are allowed to enter, but some can only be seen from outside the door.
In Bran castle Vlad displays a variety of weapons used to kill the enemy, one of them is a sharp spear longer than the human body. Vlad’s steel shield also shown in the castle. On the third floor tourists can take pictures with background of the beautiful valley. Bran castle was ever functioned as a monitoring place, there were some military control center at the valley.
In 1956, Bran Castle was eventually turned into a museum and opened to the public. The architecture of medieval Europe were very graceful make Bran Castle visited by tourists from around the world every day. In addition to the architectural and historical values, visitors can also see the beautiful scenery of Transylvania from height.
Image of Bran Castle as a Dracula’s castle brings much benefits for Romania. Eventough there is no living creature of Vlad Dracula in Bran Castle, the place is always crowded with tourists. Every year about 500 thousand people come here, the majority is from outside Romania
