Borobudur – World’s Largest Buddhist Temple (Indonesia)
Borobudur temple is a magnificent building that shows the greatness of human architecture in the past. The temple nominated as one of the seven wonders of the world and in 1991 included in the List of World Wonder Heritages by UNESCO. Many people around the world list Borobudur Temple as a place that must be visited in his life.
The temple was built by the Sailendra dynasty between years 750-842 AD, Borobudur historically created with purpose as a place of worship for Buddhists. Borobudur had been buried by the eruption of Mount Merapi lava around year 950 AD and was discovered in 1814 when the British conquered Indonesia.
Seeing Borobudur temple from near side make us wonder the culture of ancestors of Indonesia. They are really skillful in built the Borobudur temple with it’s detail reliefs on the walls. The length of the reliefs of Borobudur Temple is 6 kilometers. You can imagine how people of that era can make a building with extraordinary design like this with very limited knowledge of architecture. The reliefs at Borobudur has been recognized by the world as the most complete and largest Buddhist reliefs in the world.
Borobudur has 10 levels (representing ten levels of Bodhisattva which must be passed to reach the perfection of the Buddha). From the top of the Borobudur temple, visitors can clearly see the exotic nature of the java from all directions, Green rice field with hills ornaments and Sunset.
Travel to Borobudur
Borobudur temple complex provide quite complete facilities and accommodations, such as hotel, restaurants, souvenir shops, ATM, etc. Various tourist activity can be done at Borobudur including a visit to the temple are : visiting villages with traditional horse-drawn carriage, visit to craft villages, elephants travel, culinary, and traditional art performances.
Borobudur entrance tickets for domestic tourists are Rp.30,000 (adults), Rp.12,500 (children), while the foreign tourists Rp.190,000 (adults) and Rp.95,000 (children). Borobudur weather are very hot in the daytime. Do not forget to bring an umbrella and a hat, and wear sunblock. near the entrance gate there are lot of people renting umbrellea for only about Rp.7,000.
